What do I need to get started?
Getting Started with Polymer Clay Earrings
To start making earrings, you don't need a lot. Once you've discovered if you like it, you can buy more as your experience allows.
1. A very handy tile to work with is a smooth, shiny tile, like the kind you buy at Gamma for your bathroom. The clay sticks well to it, reducing the chance of it getting stuck in your cutter.
2. A tissue paper is helpful if you want to remove the earrings from the tile. If you don't have one yet, you can also simply place your earrings on the tile in the oven.
3. An acrylic roller or pasta machine to roll your clay evenly and thinly. A pasta machine is very useful! It also conditions your clay perfectly, but an acrylic roller will also work! You will need depth guides (2-2.5 mm) to get the right thickness.
4. Fun cutters to choose from, our website is full!
5. Polymer clay, we recommend Fimo Soft for making earrings
6. Pliers and jewelry components for assembling the earrings. 5 or 6 mm jump rings are great for connecting charms, and as a beginner, you can choose to hang your earrings on the gold beads.
And of course an oven!
We also sell fun starter kits! Show me! >>
P.S. You can make holes after baking with a hand drill, but to start with you can also pierce them with a skewer before baking
To get nice edges you can sand them gently with sandpaper grit 320
SUCCESS!
